Welcome to CareerGuru AI. By accessing or using our service, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). Please read them carefully.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account, uploading content, or using any feature of CareerGuru AI, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
2. Service Description
CareerGuru AI provides AI-powered resume and cover letter generation, enhancement, and optimization tools. Features include:
- Resume generation from job descriptions or uploaded files
- Cover letter creation tailored to job postings
- ATS (Applicant Tracking System) compatibility scoring
- Resume polishing and formatting (Premium)
- Document downloads in PDF and DOCX formats
- Job URL parsing (LinkedIn, Indeed, Greenhouse, Lever)
3. Account Registration
- You must provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration.
- You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.
- You must be at least 16 years old to use this service.
- One account per user; sharing accounts is prohibited.
- You are responsible for all activities under your account.
4. Free and Premium Tiers
Free Tier: Limited to 2 resumes and 1 cover letter per month. Does not include resume upload, polishing, job URL parsing, or styled exports.
Premium Tier: Unlimited resumes and cover letters (subject to Fair Use Policy, see Section 7), plus resume upload/polish, job URL parsing, and styled document exports. Available as monthly ($9.99/month) or annual ($79/year) subscriptions.
Polish Credits: One-time purchase ($2.99 per credit) for resume polishing without full subscription.
5. Payment & Billing
- Payments are processed securely via Stripe.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless canceled.
- Prices may change with 30 days' advance notice to existing subscribers.
- Failed payments may result in suspension of Premium features.
- No refunds for partial billing periods, except as required by law.
6. Subscription Management & Cancellation
How to Manage Your Subscription:
- Via Dashboard: Log in to your account → Go to Settings/Subscription → Click "Manage Subscription" to view status, billing history, and cancel.
- Via Stripe Portal: Access the self-service portal link in your subscription confirmation email or dashboard.
- Cancellation: You may cancel at any time. Access remains until the end of the current billing period. No partial refunds.
- Downgrade: Upon cancellation, you revert to Free tier limits at the next billing cycle.
- Reactivation: You can resubscribe anytime; prior usage history is preserved.

7. Usage Limits & Fair Use Policy
Free Tier Limits: Usage resets monthly on your account creation anniversary.
Premium "Unlimited" Fair Use Policy: The Premium "Unlimited" plan is subject to a Fair Use Policy defined as a maximum of 50 document generations per 24-hour period to prevent abuse and automated scraping. This limit is designed to accommodate normal human usage patterns while protecting service quality for all users.
- Premium users who exceed 50 generations in 24 hours will receive a temporary cooldown until the next day.
- Automated scraping, bulk generation via scripts, API abuse, or bot-like behavior is strictly prohibited.
- We reserve the right to throttle, suspend, or terminate accounts that exhibit abusive usage patterns, including but not limited to: rapid-fire document generation, credential sharing, resale of generated content, or circumvention of rate limits.
- Accounts flagged for bot-like behavior may be subject to immediate suspension pending review.
Enforcement: We use automated systems and manual review to detect unusual patterns. Legitimate high-volume users (e.g., career counselors) may contact support to request an exemption with business justification.
8. Intellectual Property & User Content
Your Content: You retain ownership of all resumes, cover letters, and uploaded files. By using the service, you grant us a limited license to process, store, and display your content solely for providing the service.
Our Content: CareerGuru AI's code, design, branding, and AI models are proprietary. You may not reverse-engineer, copy, or redistribute them.
AI-Generated Content: Documents generated by AI are provided as-is. You are responsible for reviewing and editing content for accuracy before submission to employers.
9. User Responsibilities
You agree NOT to:
- Upload malicious files, viruses, or exploits.
- Submit false, misleading, or fraudulent information.
- Use the service to generate resumes with fabricated credentials or employment history.
- Violate any applicable laws, including copyright or privacy regulations.
- Harass, impersonate, or abuse other users or our support team.
- Attempt to circumvent usage limits or payment systems.
10. AI Limitations & Disclaimers
- No Guarantee: AI-generated resumes are tools, not guarantees of employment. We do not guarantee interview invitations or job offers.
- Accuracy: AI may produce errors, hallucinations, or outdated advice. You must review all content before use.
- ATS Scores: Compatibility scores are estimates based on heuristics, not official ATS vendor ratings.
- Mock AI Mode: When
USE_MOCK_AI=true, content is generated locally without OpenAI API calls for testing purposes.
11. Data Security & Privacy
We implement industry-standard security measures (TLS, encryption, sanitization). However, no system is perfectly secure. See our Privacy Policy for details on data collection, storage, and deletion.
12. Third-Party Services
We integrate with:
- Stripe: Payment processing (subject to Stripe's terms).
- OpenAI: AI generation when enabled (subject to OpenAI's usage policies).
- AWS S3 / Cloudinary: File storage (subject to their terms).
- Puppeteer: Job URL scraping (public job postings only; respects robots.txt).
We are not responsible for third-party service outages or policy changes.
13. Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, engage in fraudulent activity, or abuse the service. Upon termination:
- Access is immediately revoked.
- Generated documents may be deleted after a grace period.
- No refunds for unused subscription time, except as required by law.
You may delete your account at any time via the dashboard or by contacting support.
14. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE.
15. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CAREERGURU AI SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOST PROFITS, LOST JOB OPPORTUNITIES, OR DATA LOSS, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS, OR $100 USD, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.
16. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless CareerGuru AI, its affiliates, and employees from any claims, damages, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from your violation of these Terms or misuse of the service.
17. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of [Your Jurisdiction]. Any disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration in [Your Jurisdiction], except where prohibited by law. You waive the right to class-action lawsuits.
